Noble Foods welcomes Barney Kay as new Agriculture Director

Noble Foods has appointed Barney Kay as the company’s new Agriculture Director, according to a news release from the British Free Range Egg Producers Association. In this role, Kay will be responsible for the network of over 200 dedicated producers, the team of Regional Performance Managers, plus the development of Noble Foods’ agricultural sustainability strategy, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainable and ethical farming practices.

Kay joins from Amber Real Estates, where he held the position of Agriculture Strategy and Supply Chain Director. During his tenure, he played a crucial role in supporting the business's transition to higher welfare chicken production, demonstrating his dedication to animal welfare and sustainable agricultural practices.

Prior to his role at Amber Real Estates, Barney served as Managing Director of Agriculture at Pilgrim’s UK, overseeing one of the largest pig farming operations in the country. His responsibilities included managing the operational and financial performance of the business, where he consistently delivered impressive results.

Kay's extensive experience in the agricultural sector also includes significant roles in retail. He served as Head of Agriculture at both Sainsbury’s and Tesco, two of the UK's largest retailers. In these positions, Barney excelled in building strong, productive relationships with farmers and suppliers, fostering trust and cooperation throughout the supply chain.

“Having begun my career as a farmer, I hope to bring an honest, practical understanding of the agricultural supply chain to the role," said Kay. "This is clearly an exciting time for Noble Foods, as the business continues to advance its support for producers and its sustainability efforts."

Kay joins Noble Foods from 1st July, where he will lead the agricultural function within the Consumer Foods business, responsible for the production and packaging of over 30 million eggs each week.
