Mr Konjufca was testifying in a court case against the repossession of the farm by the Privatisation Agency of Kosovo, PAK.

PAK initiated the proceeding against the Lipjan-based farm, privatised in July 2001, as it failed to make the promised 2 million euro-worth of investments and did not employ 112 staff as it had pledged to do.

Mr Konjufca said that in the first years following commercialisation of the farm, business was good.

But, he continued, the rent of 3,500 euro a month was too high while noise from the nearby NATO-led Kosovo Force base impacted on the wellbeing of his chickens.

Mr Konjufca said: “When there is noise, nervous chickens attack each other and die. Because of the noise from KFOR helicopters and exercises, about 86,000 chickens died.”

Ylli Kaloshi, spokesman for PAK, declined to get involved in the claims made about noise from NATO helicopters.

“The commercialised poultry farm has not met about 50 per cent of the contractual commitments," he said.

“The contract has been cancelled and this social enterprise is now under PAK administration,” he added.

A tender will be launched later this year for the farm’s re-sale, reports BalkanInsight.

Investments made so far will not be returned to Mr Konjufca but a claim for compensation has been filed by the owner with the Kosovo Supreme Court.

Mr Konjufca has filed a claim to the Supreme Court seeking 8 million euro in compensation.
