HPAI Outbreak Reported in Western Cape Province
SOUTH AFRICA - The South African veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Southern Cape Province.The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received follow-up report no. 10 yesterday, 23 February. The affected population consists of commercial ostriches that were found PCR positive for H5.
A total of 2963 birds were found susceptible to the disease, out of which 662 cases were identified. No deaths were reported, and no birds were destroyed.
The source of the outbreak has not been discovered. Stamping out of ostriches on positive farms is taking place.
