Another H5N1 Avian Flu Outbreak in South Cambodia
CAMBODIA - A new outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza has been reported in a village poultry flock.The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No.3 dated 21 March to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
A new outbreak of avian flu started on 18 March in a backyard flock of 526 birds at Kandal in the region of Kampot, which borders Viet Nam. Around 300 of the birds died and the rest have been destroyed.
After receiving a report from the birds' owners, the district and provincial veterinarians went there. They collected some samples from chicken, ducks and geese and send them to the National Veterinary Research Institute (NaVRI), where they were confirmed positive for highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1.
