Ecuador Bans US Poultry on Bird Flu Fears
ECUADOR - The country has banned imports of all poultry products from the United States, reports the USDA.On 16 April 2015, Agrocalidad - Ecuador's sanitary authority - suspended imports of US-origin live fowl, poultry meat and poultry products and eggs/egg products in response to APHIS reports of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) in the States of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas, Wisconsin, South Dakota, North Dakota, Iowa and Montana.
During 2014, Ecuador imported from the US $6 million in live fowl (over 850,000 hatched chicks), poultry meat and poultry products, as well as eggs and products, according to Henry Vega and Mariano J. Beillard in a report for the Global Agricultural Information Network (GAIN).
