Vigilance Needed After Bird Flu Reports in Russian Wild Birds
UK - The UK's Animal & Plant Health Agency has warned poultry owners to maintain high biosecurity levels and remain vigilant against avian influenza after wild bird disease detections in Russia.

By: According to Russia's official disease reports, the following birds tested positive during active surveillance around UbsuNur lake: Grey Heron, Great Crested Grebe, Blackheaded gull, Common Tern, Great Cormorant and unidentified dabbling ducks. All 17 carcases were positive for H5 viruses.
The organisation said the current wild bird incident lies within two flyways and is located close to a third flyway with overlap into the EU. Contact between wild birds and poultry is a significant risk factor for avian flu and other problematic diseases.
However, APHA said the risk level for the UK remains at low, but heightened.
