A previous appeal against the fine to the Supreme Court by the Balticovo egg producer, which said that no price cartel existed, was unsuccessful.

Latvia's Competition Council said that 11 Latvian egg producers were operating the cartel, and fined them the equivalent of 1.5 per cent of their annual net turnover each.

The fines ranged from LVL646 (USD1,161) to LVL26,729 (USD48,057); the highest fine was imposed on Balticovo.
