EU - The EU could reduce the sum granted to Romania for direct payments made in the farming sector by 20 percent if several requirements regarding management issues are not fulfilled, said yesterday Leonard Orban, the state secretary in the Ministry of European Integration.

"For agriculture the EU could grant 12 billion dollars between 2007 and 2013. The funds regarding direct payments could amount to five billion euros and for rural development, seven billion euros. The 20 percent reduction of the sums for direct payments was discussed.

This is a real risk," said Orban. When talking about management problems, the official referred to the issues concerning the creation and functioning of the payments agencies for agriculture.
