Simmons Foods gets more stringent permit for poultry plant

MISSOURI - A poultry plant in Southwest City, Missouri, just east of the Oklahoma-Missouri border is drawing complaints from some Oklahoma landowners.

The landowners say they're concerned about a five-year operating permit for the Simmons Foods poultry plant. Although the permit is more stringent than its previous permit, Grove resident Riley Needham says the permit doesn't go far enough to protect the area's water.

The treated wastewater flows into Cave Springs Branch, then into Honey Creek and finally into Grand Lake.
