Brazilain Chicken exports up 21% in February

BRAZIL - Revenues from foreign sales of the commodity had a 21.48% increase compared with the same month last year. A total of 232,200 tonnes were shipped, 16,76% more than in February 2006. In the accumulated result for the year, the Middle Eastern countries imported US$ 150.87 million in chicken meat, reported by ANBA.

Brazilian exports of chicken meat yielded US$ 296.7 million in February, a 21.48% increase compared with the same month last year. A total of 232,200 tonnes were shipped, a 16.76% increase using the same basis for comparison. The data were disclosed today (21) by the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef).

In the first two months this year, exports have already yielded US$ 561.78 million, representing a 7% increase compared with the first two months of 2006. Exports amounted to 441,260 tonnes, a 6.95% increase compared with the same period last year.

The Middle East countries were the largest importers, volume-wise, of Brazilian chicken meat. A total of 132,000 tonnes of the product were exported, 24.72% more than in January and February 2006. Exports to the region amounted to US$ 150.87 million in the first two months, a 19.37% increase. Sales to European Union countries resulted in a revenue of US$ 151.99 million in the first two months. A total of 73,990 tonnes of the product were shipped.

To Asian countries, Brazil exported US$ 137.27 million in chicken meat, which corresponded to 112,190 tonnes shipped. Sales to Africa totalled US$ 25.42 million, with 34,190 thousand tonnes exported. Also shipped were 23,310 tonnes of chicken meat to South American countries, generating revenues of US$ 25.9 million.

ABEF is maintaining its projections for 2007, of exports of 2.85 million tonnes, a 5% increase over 2006, and an exchange revenue of US$ 3.42 billion, a 6.8% increase using the same basis for comparison.
