CHICAGO, US - The chicken industry will see a consolidation process, small producers will be pushed out by big industry players and chicken farms around the country will slowly disappear, or at least this is the view of Joe Sanderson, Sanderson Farms chief executive.

According to Reuters, during a presentation at the Bank of America Consumer Conference, he said, "It would not surprise me if you saw some assets for sale over the next 12 months,"

Some of the consolidation may be due to older operators selling their businesses.

"There will be some age issues, a lot of the people holding the businesses started them," he said. "So there will be some of that as families get out of the business. But it won't be fast."

Unlike some competitors, Sanderson said his Laurel, Mississippi-based company will stay in the United States and not invest in overseas facilities, says Reuters.

"We have no plans to go overseas," he said. "I think there is plenty of money to be made in the U.S."
