FIFE, UK - 5 years worth of campaigning and 12,000 objections later, and a public enquiry has helped dismiss plans to build a massive poultry farm in Fife once and for all.

Local people had been fighting against the facility, in Cupar, for almost five years. About 12,000 objections had been sent to Fife Council.

Recorder Michael Cunliffe has written to the main residents' group explaining that the appeal has been rejected, says the BBC News.

Local campaigner Carolyn Scott said: "It shows if you put your mind to it, people can take on big brother."

She added: "We feel absolutely delighted. It's been a black cloud hanging over our heads for nearly five years. It went to public inquiry and that was gruesome.

"It's a good day for democracy."
