US - The latest export figures show that Russia remains the leading destination for US poultry meat but volumes to China, Ukraine and Mexico are all higher than for the year before.

Tyson Foods Inc. chairman, Don Tyson, says international growth represents the best path to profits for the world's biggest meat company, according to Lexington Herald-Leader.

Tyson already exports heavily, but plans to build new facilities overseas to capture domestic sales in countries with growing middle class populations like India, China and Brazil.

US Poultry & Egg Export Council has given the latest figures for export volumes to the leading markets:

  • Russia: 57,539 metric tons (t), down 36 per cent from the year before
  • China: 28,450t, (+ 3 per cent)
  • Ukraine: 25,000t, (+ 210 per cent)
  • Mexico: 22,692t, (+ 18 per cent).
