Shell Eggs Broken Down One Per Cent from Last Year

US - Shell eggs broken totaled 161 million dozen during March 2009, down one per cent from the same month a year ago, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their monthly <em>Egg Products</em> report.

Shell eggs broken totaled 161 million dozen during March 2009, down one per cent from March a year ago but nine per cent above the 148 million broken last month.

March 2009 contained 22 weekdays and four Saturdays. March 2008 contained 21 weekdays and five Saturdays.

During calendar year 2009 through March, shell eggs broken totaled 471 million dozen, down three percent from the comparable period in 2008. To date, cumulative total edible product from eggs broken in 2009 was 617 million pounds, down three per cent from 2008.
