International Egg and Poultry Review

ARGENTINA - By the USDA's Agricultural Marketing Service (AMS). This is a weekly report looking at international developments concerning the poultry industry. This week's report covers the poultry situation in Argentina.

Argentina

From January-May 2009 Argentina’s top chicken meat export destinations were Chile (12,521), South Africa (9,841), United Kingdom (3,257), Venezuela (1,816), and Angola (1,698) with total exports of 45,919 tons. In comparison, leading export destinations in 2008 were Chile (11,475), South Africa (6,663), Venezuela (4,521), Saudi Arabia (2,847), and the Congo (1,869). Total chicken meat exports in May 2009 were 10,752 tons, up 2,324 tons (+28 per cent) from May 2008 (8,428). Top exports of poultry by-products in the first five months of 2009 were to China (14,449), Hong Kong (2,641), South Africa (2,080), Vietnam (1,278), and Comores Mayotte Islands (393) versus 2008’s China (9,443), Hong Kong (5,854), Vietnam (2,294), South Africa (1,201), and Russia (701). Total poultry by-product exports in May 2009 were 3,919 tons, 10 tons lower (-1 per cent) than May 2008 (3,929). Egg and egg by-product exports from January-May 2009 totaled 2,176 tons, down 709 tons (-25 per cent) from 2008. Egg exports in May 2009 were 275 tons, down 53 tons (-16 per cent) from May 2008 (328).
