New ND Outbreak in Belgian Pigeons

BELGIUM - A new outbreak of Newcastle disease (ND) has been reported in Belgium, bringing the total to seven.

The Belgian veterinary authority has sent Follow Up Report No. 5 to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes an outbreak of Newcastle disease in a holding of 300 hobby pigeons at Nivelles in Walloon Brabant. The pigeons were vaccinated on 3 November 2009. Twenty young pigeons died in late October and a further bird died on 1 December. The remaining birds have been destroyed.
