The streamlined approach was introduced at the end of March this year after research commissioned by the NFU and the BPC helped reduce the annual ammonia emission rate for broiler units by 32 per cent. Provided that producers meet a number of criteria, they can apply to increase the number of bird places (up to a certain emission limit) quickly and more easily. The Agency is able to determine these applications in a matter of weeks.
