KhaleejTimes reports that Mubarak Al Shamsi, Chairman of the RAK Municipality, said the chicken, weighing over one tonne, were not rotten.

"The only problem with the seized items was that they were not up to the standards set by the Gulf Cooperation Council countries."

Khalifa Maktoum, Manager of the Public Health and Environment Section at the municipality, said the executive in charge of the distribution company alerted the civic body about some black spots on the chicken.

"The black spots discovered on the chicken were due to some bruises before slaughter," he said.

The chicken seized were fit for human consumption because they were all slaughtered only a day before being offered for sale, he added.

The municipality decided to destroy all amounts seized at the cost of the producing company as per the law.

"All foodstuff products offered for sale must be free from any faults," he said, indicating that the distributor was the one who informed the municipality about the supplying company which is located outside the emirate.

Maktoum added that the inspection raids run by the Department of Public Health and Environment during the holiday since Saturday ended in detecting minor violations.

"Only some institutions were fined while some others were warned not to repeat the same violations again."

The inspection teams deployed in the last three days covered several areas of the emirate, and saw the participation of all male staff and female inspectors.

A few days back, the Ras Al Khaimah Municipality nabbed an Asian resident while selling meals he cooked and prepared at home to a contracting company in the Shaam area, 40km to the north of the city.
