The plant, located in Passo Fundo, had 19 confirmed COVID-19 cases, according to the spokesman. The company did not confirm that tally or provided any other details as to the number of persons infected. However, an anonymous source at the chicken plant said the number is 12, reported Reuters.

The company declined to discuss the number of people infected at that facility, which Brazil's UOL website had pegged at 19.

The plant in the town of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande do Sul state, employs around 2,600 people, JBS said in a statement.
