Dr. Sangita Jalukar, a senior technical services manager at Arm & Hammer Animal and Food Production, recently was interviewed by The Poultry’s Site’s Sarah Mikesell in Atlanta, Georgia, USA at IPPE.

Tell us about Arm & Hammer’s updated product being launched at IPPE.

The product is called Celmanax Ultra. We have been selling the Celmanax brand in the US poultry market for several years.

Celmanax is a refined functional carbohydrate product derived from yeast and it has been used in broilers, layers and turkeys primarily for Salmonella control, but on the live side it has been shown to improve performance.

It can provide improved performance for FCR (feed conversion ratio) and egg production. So you get Salmonella control, but the product also pays for itself because you are getting a performance benefit.

It does have other health benefits, but from a producer point of view, it is a Salmonella mitigation product pre-harvest. On the layer-side, the producer gets the performance benefit. It is a product that is on the Walmart best-in-class approved list.

What are the key features and benefits?

Celmanax Ultra is a variation of our existing Celmanax product - we have concentrated it. Its inclusion level is half what we have in our regular Celmanax product. From an end-user point of view, it means they can have a lower footprint. The product is easier to store in the warehouse because it occupies a smaller space.

It also has a significant impact on cost per treated ton when you consider the shipping or freight costs. Customers can save as much as 25% on the cost per treated ton, including shipping price. So, there is a clear benefit from an end-user point of view if they are using our current Celmanax product with the Celmanax Ultra.
