Gisele Ravagnani, Technical Marketing Manager at Lanxess, recently spoke to The Poultry Site’s Sarah Mikesell at the International Production & Processing Expo (IPPE) in Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

Tell us a little bit about your business and why are you back at IPPE?

Lanxess is a German company with headquarters based in Cologne, but we are present in most countries worldwide. Lanxess is a chemical company, and we have many assorted products for all your business activities and solutions. Lanxess biosecurity solutions is one of these solutions and we work with animal health businesses.

We develop cleaners, disinfectants, and we have several types of biosecurity solutions for poultry, swine, aquaculture, horticulture, pet clinics and much more.

Tell me about Lanxess solutions in the US and Latin American markets.

Our message is always that we have biosecurity solutions. Biosecurity is like a universe of solutions, for example, vaccines, water and rodents control. We specialize in cleaning and disinfection. With all these products, we are talking a lot about highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), and we've been seeing several cases rising in the US.

For other diseases, we have vaccines available. We must fight with what we have available, such as disinfectants. You must keep everything clean not only in your barns, but outside as well. For example, implementing protocols for truck and equipment disinfection is important.

Our solutions include a variety of different types of cleaners, like alkaline cleaners, acid cleaners, neutral cleaners, foamy and non-foamy cleaners and disinfectants. All our disinfectants are registered according to the local agencies such as in the US with the EPA, and in Brazil it’s MAPA.

  • Virkon S is our premium brand, our most well-known product. We have an exceptionally long efficacy list, so it works against viruses, fungi, bacteria, HPAI and other important viruses for swine production. Virkon S works even in low temperatures. Some regions get super cold in the wintertime, and it’s important to know if the disinfectant that you are using works in low temperatures. Virkon S is this kind of chemistry; it's still effective.
  • TH4+ is a synergistic blend of quaternary ammonia compound and glutaraldehyde. It's very safe for use with various materials. It has a friendly compatibility with various products, such as aluminum, galvanized steel, and plastic.
  • Hyperox is registered in Mexico and can be used for disinfection in a wide range of animal husbandry and greenhouse hygiene biosecurity.
  • Glutex GS2 Sanitizer is a proven genuine high-quality glutaraldehyde that is free of formaldehyde.
  • Virkon LSP is a synthetic phenolic. It's very stable, you can use the solution for up to seven days.

If you want to know more about our products, just let us know. It would be a pleasure to talk more with anyone who has questions.

Why is IPPE an important show for Lanxess?

IPPE is a big show. Many companies attend this show, and people from so many different countries are here. It's an important not only for the US market, but we receive our Canadian, Brazilian and Mexican customers here. There are attendees from Peru, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and even from European countries. At IPPE, everyone gets together - all the industry and all our customers. It's a good show to connect customers and people in the industry.
