Farmer Josef Kotter recently erected a modern new building for organic broiler production in the Bavarian municipality of Bruck, around 30 kilometres east of Munich – and elected to use only Big Dutchman equipment.

The new house has two strictly separated compartments with 4800 broilers each; the separation continues in the winter garden and on the open run. A winter garden and a large area for ranging create bird-friendly conditions and promote welfare.

Modern housing technology ensures that the birds are well cared for:

  • Ideal feeding system – Fluxx 330 feed pan: This feed pan is equipped with a 360-degree flooding mechanism, which automatically creates a high feed level in the first days. The farmer can thus ensure an optimal start for the day-old chicks. Over the course of the flock, the pans are lifted at intervals, minimising feed wastage. Flexible grille bars allow for easy access to the feed, and the curved feed-saving lip prevents feed losses. The pan comes with a screwless snap-on system, making it easy to install and to clean.
  • Comfortable temperatures – JetMaster type DXC60: With a heat output of 60 kW, this gas heater creates the ideal temperature in the house at all times – an important welfare criterion. The combustion chamber is closed so the house air remains free of excess carbon dioxide and other harmful gases, as these leave the building through a double-walled chimney. The fresh air required for combustion is drawn in from the outside through the chimney and thus pre-heated. An integrated fan distributes the warm air evenly – for maximum efficiency at low energy consumption!
  • Intelligent control – ViperTouch: The climate and production computer for poultry houses controls temperatures, ventilation and air quality fully automatically. ViperTouch is not only responsible for the climate, but also for feeding, water supply, light control and bird weight monitoring. Users adjust parameters intuitively at a 10-inch touchscreen. An alarm management system is also integrated for maximum reliability.
