Ac - Chicken
The Ac chicken is a black meat breed that originates from Vietnam, where the meat is traditionally used as a curative for medical conditions.
A popular Asian recipe is to make a chicken soup which also contains medicinal herbs, which is then given to the old, the young and pregnant women to treat a variety of symptoms. The interest in using the meat as a remedy is increasing, resulting in a growing population of birds.
The Ac breed of chicken is characterised by white feathers, which give them a fluffy appearance, and black skin pigmentation.
In Asia, they are sometimes also called ‘the black 5-toes chicken’. At 5 to 7 months of age, the birds begin to lay eggs. They do not lay many eggs, around 15 per laying cycle, each with a weight of approximately 30 grams. Mainly kept as utility birds, the males reach a weight of 1.4 kg when they reach maturity, and the females weigh between 0.8-1.2 kg.
