Bandara - Chicken
The Bandara breed of chicken is named after a village in Egypt that is part of the El-Gimmizah Agriculture Research Center, where this breed was developed. The White Cornish and Gimmizah breeds were used as the base breeds for the Bandara.
The mature birds are white in colour, and the chicks are a recessive white. It has a duplex comb, red ear lobes and the skin and feet are a yellowish white. They are a moderate layer of brown shelled eggs.
Many studies have been carried out on this breed, and results have shown that its productive and reproductive traits are superior to other local breeds, such as they produce heavier weight eggs. It also has the heaviest body weight when compared to other local breeds. One use for this breed is that it could be considered as foundation stock to be cross bred with another breed for meat production.
