Buttercup - Chicken
The Buttercup chicken is a rare breed that is thought to originate from Sicily. It has golden color tones to its feathers, green legs and a cup shaped comb that is created by two single combs that join together at each end. The males are red and orange in color, while the females are a golden buff. The black coloring on the males and females has a green sheen. Because of its appearance the Buttercup chicken breed is often kept for exhibition purposes.
The hens lay an average amount of white eggs, and do not go broody. They are active and flighty and do not suit being kept in confinement as they tend to avoid human contact. The design of their comb means that it is susceptible to frost bite in cold conditions. This breed is quick to mature and the males weigh around 2.9 kg and the females 2.25 kg.
