Campine - Chicken
Campine chickens are a rare breed that originate from Belgium. It is now a breed that is not often seen, and it is usually kept for exhibition purposes. The standardized colors in the UK are silver and gold. It has a single red comb and white earlobes.
They are an active breed that enjoys foraging, so are suited to a free range set up. They are not suited to beginner poultry keepers as they are not easy to handle and tend to avoid human contact. They can be flighty so enclosures must be tall enough to contain them. Their close feathers mean that they are not suited to colder climates, so adequate shelter must be provided. The hens are average layers and produce around 150 white eggs per year. They do not have a tendency to go broody. The mature males weigh around 2.7 kg and the females 2.25 kg.
