Crevecoeur - Chicken
Crevecoeur chickens are a rare breed that originate from Normandy, France. It is one of the country’s oldest breeds. Their feathers are black in color with a green sheen, and they have crests and beards. They have a V shaped comb and red wattles and earlobes.
This is a breed that is kept for exhibition purposes, although originally it was kept as a dual purpose bird. The hens lay around 120 eggs per year, and do not have a tendency to go broody. It is a breed that enjoys space to exercise, but are not active foragers, so they are adaptable to smaller enclosures. This breed has a docile temperament and is easy to handle, although they are not suited to colder climates and if not kept dry and warm they can be susceptible to illness. The mature males weigh around 3.6 kg and the females 3.2 kg. There are bantam sizes available.
