The Gimmizah chicken breed was developed at the El-Gimmizah Poultry Research Farm, Ministry of Agriculture, Gharbia, Egypt. It is bred from the white Plymouth Rock, and another developed breed, Dokki 4. The Gimmizah has been used to produce a selection of hybrids. The reason for the selective breeding program is to improve the meat and egg productivity of the local breeds, and to create new breeds that are more suited to farming conditions.

The Gimmizah breed of chicken resembles the Barred Plymouth Rock, in its shape and its color. The feathers are a light grey that are barred with a darker grey. In the males, the barring is at an equal width, whereas in the females, the light bars are half the width of the darker bars. It has a single comb and red earlobes. The Gimmizah showed an improvement on the local breeds in its productive and reproductive abilities.
