Golden Montazah - Chicken
Golden Montazah chickens are a breed that was developed by the Montazah Poultry Research Farm in Montazah, Egypt. The demand for protein meant that the local breeds were not able to fulfill the demand. For this reason, a breeding program was started so that hybrids could be created to improve the local breeds that are not suited to farming conditions. It used cross breeding and selective breeding techniques.
The Golden Monatzah was developed by cross breeding a Rhode Island Red with Dokki 4, another developed breed. It has a Columbian barred pattern to the feathering. On the males, the red and light bars are of equal size, whereas in the females, the red bars are more prominent. They have a single comb and red earlobes. This breed showed an improvement in productivity compared to the Dokki 4, which was bred from the local Fayoumi breed and a Barred Plymouth Rock.
