The Gray Junglefowl is a breed that is native to the southern and western forests of India, and they are attractive birds with grey black feathers for the males and mottled brown and black coloring for the females. Their colored plumage becomes more vibrant as the birds mature.

They are not suitable for beginners to poultry keeping, as they have retained their wild instincts and can be nervous. They do not tolerate cold temperatures and require tall enclosures as they like to roost as high up as possible. Gray Junglefowl require a diet that is different to other domesticated chickens. They should be fed fruits such as pomegranate, hot peppers, pumpkin and a small amount of game bird pellets. Small dog kibble is also recommended. Being an active forager, this breed needs stimulation and benefits from regular changes in scenery such as creating new perching areas, regularly adding piles of leaves and rearranging the layout of the enclosure.
