Khaki Campbell - Duck
The Khaki Campbell duck originates from Gloucestershire, UK, and was bred by Mrs Adele Campbell when, at the turn of the 19th century, she cross bred a Pencilled Runner with a Mallard and produced a khaki colored duck.
There are two varieties, khaki and white, although the white is not recognized in the UK. They have a sleek appearance and tall stance. The male duck has green bronze colored feathers on the head, neck and rump, with the rest of the feathers being a khaki color. The female duck has a soft khaki shade that is pencilled.
It is a hardy duck that can tolerate warm and cool climates, and they lay a large amount of eggs, around 200 or more per year. Some of the most successful lines have produced over 300 eggs per year. They are quiet, yet energetic ducks that are active foragers. They enjoy exploring their surroundings and will eat many garden pests. They are also flighty, need plenty of space to exercise, so require a free range set up. Mature birds weigh around 1.8 kg.
