Pomeranian - Duck
The Pomeranian duck is native to the Pomerania region on the borders of Germany and Switzerland. It is now a very rare breed. There are two varieties, blue and black, and they both have white bibs. The color is light blue on the blue variety, and on the black variety the feathers have a green sheen. Pomeranian ducks are a good producer of meat and eggs.
The female ducks lay around 100 green or white eggs per year, they do go broody and make good mothers. Pomeranians are hardy ducks that can tolerate cooler climates. They are active foragers and eat a variety of insects, garden pests and plants.
Like most ducks, they enjoy a decent pond although are happy as garden birds provided they have free access to enough water to bathe in. They are average sized ducks and the mature males weigh around 3 kg and the females 2.5 kg.
