Silver Montazah - Chicken
This is a breed that was developed at the Montazah Poultry Research Farm in Egypt. The Silver Montazah is a cross breed of a Rhode Island Red and Dokki 4. There is an increasing demand for protein in Egypt and a need to develop new breeds of poultry.
The Silver Montazah is used as breeding stock for a program that uses coupled and selective breeding techniques to create new breeds. There is the need to improve the local chicken breeds, as they do not produce enough eggs or meat to keep with demand. The traditional local breeds are not suited to being farmed, so new breeds have been developed that performed better in Egyptian farming conditions.
The Silver Montazah is an improvement of the Dokki 4. It lays a greater amount of eggs, and they also weigh more. The hens lay around 200 eggs per year. In color, the feathering of the Silver Montazah resembles the Light Sussex.
