Live Vaccines
COMPOSITION
SALMUNE® is a live bacterial vaccine for chickens containing an attenuated
Salmonella typhimurium organism in a freeze-dried preparation. The
chromosome of this strain of Salmonella typhimurium has been chemically
mutated to render the vaccine strain permanently attenuated (avirulent) by
limiting its invasiveness and colonizaton time within the chicken’s internal
organs and intestine.
INDICATIONS
SALMUNE® aids in the prevention of disease and colonization of the internal
organs and the intestine, including the ceca, of multiple types of salmonellae
including group B Salmonella Heidelberg and Salmonella typhimurium,
group C Salmonella Hadar and Salmonella Kentucky, and group D
Salmonella Enteritidis.
ADMINISTRATION AND DOSAGE
Vaccinate only healthy chickens.
SALMUNE® is recommended for the vaccination of healthy chickens at oneday of age using coarse spray or drinking water. A single spray application of this vaccine to broilers at the hatchery aids in the prevention of salmonella colonization throughout the production cycle. If water vaccination is used for day-old chicks, a second vaccination is required at seven days of age. If chickens are maintained past seven weeks of age, a repeat vaccination is recommended. Vaccination of layer or breeder pullets with SALMUNE® should be followed by the administration of LAYERMUNE® SE or LAYERMUNE® 3 at approximately 12 weeks of age.
