Clock is ticking for slurry station
UK - Britains first green power station, which generates enough electricity for 1000 homes from little more than cow slurry, faces closure, reports The Times. The owners of the project based at Holsworthy, north Devon went bust in March 2004 and in Jan 2004 its main creditor, HSH Nordbank, called in a £2.8m loan.The business turned over £1.3m last year and is forecast to make a profit of £360,000 for the next, but an investment of £250,000 is needed to contain the smell arising from the large slurry pit.
The plant received joint funding from DEFRA and the EU to cover half the £7.7m cost.
