Meat inspectors return to Lakeside plant after court order

US - Federal meat inspectors have returned to work at Lakeside Packers after a court ruling ordering striking workers to allow them into the plant.

Production at Canada's largest meat-packing facility had been halted for three days this week after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency employees refused to cross the picket line, citing safety concerns.

Lakeside, which threatened to sue them if they didn't go back, asked the courts to intervene. Wednesday night, a Court of Queen's Bench justice ruled that pickets cannot prevent the inspectors from going in.
