Chicken exports grow by 47%
BRAZIL - Brazilian chicken exports yielded US$ 2.145 billion in the first half of this year, an increase of 47% in comparison with the same period in 2006. The export volume reached 1.544 million tonnes, an increase of 24.4%. The data were disclosed today (16) by the Brazilian Poultry Exporters Association (Abef). In the month of June alone, sales totalled US$ 392.4 million, 76.7% more than in the same month last year. Shipments totalled nearly 260,000 tonnes, a 33% increase over June 2006.
According to the Abef, the expressive growth is due to the basis for comparison, as exports decreased last year as a consequence of a retraction in global consumption, resulting from avian flu outbreaks in Europe, Asia, and Africa.
