GLOBAL - The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) has received reports on H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) from Germany on its new outbreak, and a follow-up report from Togo.

The German veterinary authorities sent a report dated 10 October about an outbreak of HPAI in Markersdorf in Saxony. In the establishment affected, there are 800 geese, 550 ducks, 60 chicken and 24 turkeys. Only one bird is reported to have been affected but HPAI of the H5N1 sub-type has been confirmed. All remaining birds on the farm have been destroyed and standard control measures are in place.

Togo has sent a follow-up report to OIE dated 10 October, saying that there have no further outbreaks of HPAI in the country since their previous report on 19 September.
