Weekly US Broiler Hatchery Report
US - The USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) reports that, compared to the same week last year, the numbers of broiler-type eggs set was up two per cent while the number of chicks placed was one per cent higher.Broiler-type eggs set in 19 selected states up two per cent
Commercial hatcheries in the 19-State weekly programme set 206 million eggs in incubators during the week ending 6 March 2010. This was up 2 per cent from the eggs set the corresponding week a year earlier.
Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 83 per cent. Average hatchability is calculated by dividing chicks hatched during the week by eggs set three weeks earlier.
Broiler chicks placed up one per cent
Broiler growers in the 19-State weekly programme placed 169 million chicks for meat production during the week ending 6 March 2010. Placements were up 1 per cent from the comparable week a year earlier.
Cumulative placements from 3 January 2010 through 6 March 2010 were 1.50 billion, down slightly from the same period a year earlier.
