Germany Reports Newcastle Disease in Pigeons

GERMANY - The first outbreak of Newcastle disease since 2008 has been reported near Bochum.

The veterinary authority has sent an Immediate Notification dated 4 May to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report states that the outbreak started on 3 May at Goldhamme in North Rhine-Westphalia in a breeding establishment with 20 pigeons. Five of the birds died.

The last outbreak of Newcastle disease in Germany was in September 2008.
