Residents Angered by Stench from Poultry Farm
MALAYSIA - About 5,000 residents of Taman Krubong Jaya, Malacca, have complained to the state government and relevant authorities about the overbearing stench from a poultry farm in their area.According to The Star Online, Makkal Osai reported that they wanted the authorities to take remedial action so that they would not have to bear with the problem anymore.
One of the affected residents, 43-year-old M Das, said their complaints seemed to have fallen on deaf ears as they had been suffering for the past five years.
He said that his daughter’s impending wedding celebrations were in jeopardy as his house was just 100m away from the farm.
The overpowering odour would be an unpleasant experience for his guests, he said.
Another affected resident, Ah Meng, 46, said the residents also had to put up with thousands of flies that were drawn to the chicken droppings.
“During rainy days, the situation would be worsen. It gets absolutely intolerable here,” he said.
He claimed that the participants of Sukma Games, which will be hosted by the state government from 9 to 19 June, would also be affected as Stadium Hang Jebat was near the poultry farm.
The state government, he said, should do the needful to end their misery.
