SOUTH KOREA - One outbreak of low-pathogenic avian influenza (LPAI) has been reported at a small poultry farm in the west of the country.

The veterinary authority has sent an Immediate Notification dated 17 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes the outbreak starting on 7 December at a farm in Nohwa-ri in Chung Cheong Nam-Do. This is the same state where H5N1 was reported to have been found in wild birds last week although some distance away.

In this outbreak, one bird in a mixed flock of ducks and chickens was affected. The whole flock of 110 birds has been destroyed.

The presence of the H7N2 sub-type of the virus has been confirmed.
