Sub-Clinical ND Found in Central Mexico

MEXICO - Birds at one farm in central Mexico have been found to have sub-clinical Newcastle disease (ND).

The veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification dated 12 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes the finding of sub-clinical Newcastle disease on a breeder farm with 500 birds at Nopala de Villagrán in Hidalgo state on 31 January. The presence of the pathogenic strain of the Newcastle disease virus was detected through routine active surveillance activities implemented nationwide.

The last outbreak of sub-clinical Newcastle disease in Mexico was in 2003.
