The report describes the outcome of a FVO specific audit in Poland, concerning poultry meat and poultry meat products which took place from 28 September to 8 October 2010, as part of a general audit of Poland on official food and feed controls. The specific audit evaluated the implementation of national measures, aimed at the control of the food safety control system in place governing the production and placing on the market of poultry meat and poultry meat products.

The audit found that there is a comprehensive and documented system of official controls of poultry meat and poultry meat products, which includes regular controls of farms and establishments. However, its implementation is not fully satisfactory, as evidenced by deficiencies noted in some establishments, regarding sanitary conditions, post-mortem inspection, and systems based on Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points principles. The effectiveness of official controls is also compromised by the lack of appropriate enforcement in some cases.

The deficiencies found by the audit team during the mission at establishment level were either corrected immediately or the competent authority provided the audit team with guarantees that they would be corrected.

The report makes a number of recommendations to the Polish competent authorities, aimed at rectifying the shortcomings identified and enhancing the implementing and control measures in place.
