Poultry Exports in 2010 Amounted to SYP151 Million

SYRIA - Annual chicken meat production in 2010 amounted to 300,000 tons with egg production reaching five billion eggs, 1.5 billion of which were exported and three billion eggs were allocated to meet local market needs.

According to SANA, Chief of the Federation of Chambers of Agriculture Mohammed Kashto said in a statement to SANA that till the end of 2010, the number of poultry farms in Syria reached 25,000, adding: "Two million tons of yellow maize are annually imported since it constitutes 70 per cent of poultry feed products, with 300 tons locally produced."

Director General of the General Establishment for Poultry, Adnan Othman, said the establishment's exports in 2010 amounted to SYP151 million (US$1 = SYP47), 25 per cent of its export plan.

Mr Othman added that the establishment's plan for 2011 aims at producing 351 million eggs and 3,800 tons of chicken meat.
