IPE 2012 to Examine Future of US Egg Industry

US - The International Poultry Expo will feature a conference entitled, 'Charting the Course: An Executive Conference on the Future of the American Egg Industry', as a key component of its educational programmes at the 2012 Expo.

The conference will be held in conjunction with the Charting the Course: Future of the American Poultry Industry programme and will analyse current economic conditions, address global competitiveness, and provide foresight into the American egg industry in the coming years. The conference is free of charge to all Expo attendees.

The programme is co-sponsored by USPoultry and the United Egg Producers.

Several prominent guests will be on hand to give presentations during the first portion of the conference. Jeff Simmons, President of Elanco, will conduct a presentation on Making Safe, Affordable and Abundant Food a Global Reality. Jim Paulsen, Chief Investment Strategist for Wells Capital Management, will address current and future economic conditions with an Economic Outlook presentation.

The second portion of the conference will include an egg break-out session, which will comprise the following sessions: Global Competitiveness, with a view at lessons learned from the last 10 years and drivers and issues for the future, Status of Current Production Systems Research, UEP/HSUS Agreement: What it means to the Industry and Enriched Colony Housing.

Dr Darrin Karcher of Michigan State University, and Dr Jeff Buhr of ARS will give presentations on the production system research. Gene Gregory, president of United Egg Producers, will discuss the impact of the UEP/HSUS agreement on the industry; and Tom Silva, Vice President of J.S. West Milling Co., will provide initial results on enriched colony housing.

Sponsored by US Poultry & Egg Association, the 2012 edition of the world's largest poultry industry event is set for 24 to 26 January at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta.
