Nepal Reports More HPAI Outbreaks in Bagmati

NEPAL - The Nepalese veterinary authorities have reported further outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza in Bagmati.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No. 4 yesterday, 26 March. According to the report, one outbreak occurred at a commercial layer farm located in a village where ducks, quails and pigs were raised separately inside the farm premises while the other was at two adjoining commercial poultry farms having layers in two sheds and broilers in one shed.

A total of 24820 birds were found susceptible to the outbreaks, out of which 21806 cases were reported. 21806 deaths were observed, and 3014 birds were destroyed.

Stamping out followed by cleaning, disinfection, disposal and sealing of the infected premises have already been completed at the Dullu layer farm whereas stamping out has been completed and cleaning and disinfection of the infected premises is being done at the commercial poultry farm at Sainbu-5. Post-operative surveillance activities are being intensively carried out throughout the country.

The source of the outbreak remains inconclusive.
