Processor Fined for Late Payments
US - The US Department of Agriculture’s Grain Inspection, Packers and Stockyards Administration has fined a New York poultry processor for delaying payments to poultry sellers.GIPSA entered into a consent decision with New Lee’s Live Poultry Market and Shen Chen.
New Lee and Chen have been ordered to cease and desist from delaying payment to poultry sellers in violation of section 410 of the Packers and Stockyards (P&S) Act.
New Lee and Chen have been assessed a civil penalty in the amount of $12,000.
The P&S Act is a fair trade practice and payment protection law that promotes fair and competitive marketing environments for the livestock, meat and poultry industries.
