US Expresses Support to Brazil over Anti-Dumping Measures
BRAZIL - The executive president of Brazilian Poultry Association (União Brasileira de Avicultura - UBABEF), Francisco Turra, and the markets director and vice president of International Poultry Council (IPC), Ricardo Santin, participated yesterday of a meeting with James Sumner, president of USA Poultry & Egg Export Council (USAPEEC), during the SIAL show in Paris, France. At the meeting, the leaders of the two largest poultry exporters discussed the challenges related to production in both countries, such as new markets, protectionism, technical issues, among others.
During the meeting, the president of Ubabef, showed to Mr Sumner the situation that Brazil is facing about the exports of chicken meat to South Africa. This week, Brazilian exporters received an Essential Facts letter from the International Trade Commission on the application of provisional anti-dumping duties imposed to Brazilian chicken companies.
“The above mentioned document insists in the existence of dumping, something that is definitely not accepted by the Brazilian poultry sector. We reaffirm and proved that the poultry industry does not dump its products - not with South Africa nor in any other country. This unjustified protectionism, besides not making the South African producers' situation any better, still harms the consumers who pay more for a products and have reduced access to quality chicken meatfrom Brazil", said Mr Turra.
In line with Mr Turra, Mr Sumner highlighted that USAPEEC is also against protectionist measures, such as the ones adopted by the South African government. And for this, the Organization that represents the American poultry exporters supports Brazil in this action.
As he said, the two countries are competitors. But at the same time, partners in the maintenance of free competition based on ethics. In this sense, USA has taken Brazil's side in defending a fair and transparent international trade, with no protectionism.
