BRAZIL - The chief executive of the Brazilian Poultry Union (UBABEF), Francisco Turra, has expressed concern over the recent news about the adjustment in freight announced by ocean carriers, which could come into force from as early as the 1st December.

The increases announced by the carriers, reach $1,500 per container. In some cases, there was alignment of prices charged by firms, an issue that has come to the House of Representatives.

"This is an issue that will directly affect the competitiveness of the Brazilian export sector in an extremely delicate moment for the global economy." said Mr Turra.

In the case of the poultry sector, the impacts of these increases will have even more serious effect, considering the crisis faced by agribusiness, due to an increase of over 40 per cent in production costs.
